Tips For Renting A Budget Car PDF Print E-mail

If you are someone who travels a great deal then perhaps it is time you considered budget car rental; true, taxis can be convenient as well but that's only when you do not have to be anywhere particular in a hurry and don't mind the high cost of each journey. Sometimes though, the companies that rent budget cars, supply cars that are at the bottom end of the spectrum.

OK, so I may be exaggerating a little but it is something you have to look out for because the last thing you want is to have a car that is not going to get the job done. There are a few things that can help you when you organize a low cost rental car and I decided to let you know a few.

The first easy option is to be in control of what you spend by finding a budget car rental company online that lets you set your own financial limit. Some of these sites are just comparison sites but well worth your time as they have done all the hard work for you.

If you are lucky and decide to book a fly and drive deal for instance, then you may find the rental company has upgraded your vehicle but this is less likely if you book with the airline themselves. Unfortunately, airlines although convenient aren't really the more economic way to go, their car rental prices are hardly budget, and tend to be higher than those of outside the airline industry companies.

If you are not used to arranging budget car rental on the internet, do not let that put you off as you will be pleasantly surprised by the offers available. Often the discounts you are offered are only available to online customers. Shopping around on the internet can be fun and save you money as there is almost always a special offer available with one car rental company or another. Don't forget that the only effort required to find these car rental deals is to logon to the internet, how easy is that.

Another thing to ask for is whether your credit card company has negotiated special discounts with the budget car rental company you are going to use. It is quite common these days for a company to have made an arrangement with other companies to give discounts to their employees or members so you may be lucky enough to receive a further discount here.

Before you drive the rental car away, carry out a thorough check for damage. These cars often take a few knocks so if there is any damage; make sure the renter is aware of them. Not only the outside but also check the inside and make sure all the controls etc. work as the last thing you want is a hefty repair bill when you return the car.

More often than not your existing vehicle policy will cover the rental car insurance needed but it is always best to check first. Even though rental car insurance isn't going to cost you a fortune, there is no point in paying for it if you are already covered; whatever the case, you must still have insurance coverage when you rent a car so don't try and skip it to save money.

So don't think that it isn't an important aspect either because car insurance is still required by law in every state.
