Most Popular Visitor Attractions in New York PDF Print E-mail
by JWRaymond

If you are fortunate enough to have seven days in New York City, you will find this just enough time to see the most popular visitor attractions. Most people will agree that a trip here would not be complete without seeing the world famous empire State Building especially from the top. Some people swear that it is better to visit the top floor of the Rockefeller Center but you really do need a clear day to fully appreciate the view. Possibly equal to The State Building is The Statue of Liberty but owing to delays with the ferry trips it might be worth viewing this 'beautiful lady' (and an inspiration to many) from Ellis Island.

Fortunately, the Staten Island ferry is still free and can provide great views of the Statue of Liberty; dropping off at the terminal is the best place because it is where there are some good street artists. Of course almost everyone who spends seven days in New York City will, at some pint, make their way to the site of where the Twin Towers once stood. The area where they stood is surprisingly large plus the emptiness feels strange and if you like taking photographs, you may be disappointed here because it just doesn't feel right. World famous stores are plentiful in New York with names like Tiffany's to the many discount stores along Broadway.

Then there is Maceys, where there is always a sale so don't forget to get your 11 per cent tourist discount card; and you can look but don't touch at Bloomingdales. Another popular visitor destination, which is currently closed for refurbishment is the ISASM or the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum which will be opening it's doors again late in 2008; well worth looking in if your around at that time of the grand re-opening. There is a great deal there with the USS Intrepid taking center stage being a Second World War aircraft carrier but there is a Concorde and other underwater vessels there too. If you have the time the New York City Police Museum is also worth a look and although it's free to enter, a five dollar donation per visitor is advised; it contains a great deal of information about the World famous Police Department and you can buy souvenirs too.

Side Tenement Museum which captures the lives of immigrants to New York back in 1864 If you visit Central Park (and why wouldn't you?) you can call into the Museum of New York City which has some excellent exhibitions about the past, present and future of the city. The museum is in a beautiful building which is free to enter but a nine dollar donation is normally given with plenty of souvenirs available.

There is a huge amount to see and do in this city and if you are staying anything less than seven days in New York, you will hardly scratch the surface!
