Although it isn't a well publicized fact, Paris is the second largest European city; ideally situated along the banks of the river Seine. Almost everyone taking a European vacation will decide on a short stay in Paris; you can never become bored in this beautiful city.

Visitors flock to see its many wonderful buildings; it has much to offer visitors who adore culture, even if it is only for a long weekend. Visitors to Paris as well as its citizens can travel around Paris easily; the Metro underground system is easy to understand, efficient and reaches everywhere even the most enthusiastic tourist would want to visit.

You can't miss the Eiffel Tower, mainly because it's over three hundred meters high; it's visible throughout most of the city but the views from the top of this huge steel structure are even more impressive. In the evening the illumination means it can be seen for many miles; it is possible to take organized tours which tell the story of the Tower and the history of France.

On your Paris trip ensure you add the famous Champs Elysees to your list of places to visit; it will present you with many famous designer shops and good restaurants. This is considered a more exclusive and busy area of the city; most of the five star hotels are located here but more affordable hotels can be found further out.

Paris houses the Louvre Museum; with almost a third of a million exhibits, you will not be able to see everything in one trip. Visitors on short stays in Paris could easily be overwhelmed; approximately 8 million visitors a year come to see the Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa, both of which are on display. Many well known artists spent years of their lives in Paris; chances are that you will have the opportunity to see a number of famous paintings whilst you're visiting

The Arc de Triomphe another famous landmark was built by Napoleon in 1806; the names of his generals engraved upon it to honor them and his troops. Many people do not know that an observatory was included in the design which affords great views of the surrounding area; including all the avenues of which it is a focal point.

Certainly it is not fair to believe that these are the only places in the city worth visiting; and whilst there are many more worthy examples, those listed here should not be missed. It is fair to say that you won't see everything on a Paris short stay of two or even three day break; what you aren't able to this time will have to wait for another occasion.
